This past Sunday we headed downtown to the castle area to watch the
Yatai Matsuri. It is a festival (
matsuri) for the many portable shrines (
yatai) around
Himeji and other nearby cities.

Each area had
their own color of pompoms to wave.


Many men carry the
yatai. Every so often, they stop and raise the
yatai over
their heads and shake. All the while yelling Yo Ya
Sai!

Yes, those are bare butts you see. The men are wear
fundoshis. It is similar to what the
sumos wear when they wrestle.
RJ asked if he could get one to wear. I quickly said no.
Hopefully Mitch's blog will post some more pictures of this event. He took some really great ones.
