Naruto Strait Whirlpools

Sunday we woke up leisurely and Mitch took the kids downstairs for a swim. They had a blast and I straightened up the room a bit. We met back up with Izumi and Toshi around noon and headed to the south end of the island to the Naurto Strait.

We boarded a ship to head our to see the famous whirlpools that are created where the Japan Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet up.

This was our ship
Izumi, Toshi with Sara, RJ and me in the background
This was a shrine Mitch saw on our way out to sea.
Us just waiting to get to the whirlpools.

You could see them off in the distance. Notice how calm the water is in the fore ground
Here they are
This smaller boat got right in there
You can kind of see the whirl..the weather was a bit bad which made for not so great conditions, but you can get the idea.
RJ was very worried that our ship was going to crash into the bridge we had to go under. Sara did her part to calm his fears.

some video of the whirlpools
a more zoomed out view of the whirlpools.
It was very cool to experience!
