Our friend Miho invited us to the horse race track to watch the cub scouts launch some PET bottle rockets that they built with her husbands help a few months ago. Apparently her husband build great PET bottle rockets.
RJ was so excited when Miho told him he could launch her husband's rocket (he actually lives and works on another island here in Japan so he only comes home about once a month)

You fill it was some water (not too much, but enough to build up pressure to be released)
Then you hook it up to the PET bottle rocket launcher and use a bike tire pump to build up pressure
And then you remove the pump and pull the release value while trying to stay out of the way....
They both got soaked but Miho was too quick for the picture. RJ actually liked getting wet because it was very hot out that day!!A short video of one of their launches
